The ORIGINS of Jimmy Sands and THE STAR CIRCUIT...
But first a weather update from THE ALGARVE (Portugal)...
It's HOT, HOT, HOT... and I don't mean UK type hot. This has been a REAL
heatwave (just a shade under 40° for the past couple of weeks) — totally
relentless. Too hot to use the aircon... You sweat when it's hot, you sweat
even more when it's cold (this is why you can't SAFELY use air con)... Out for
a drive in the car with the windows wide open is the only truly safe relief
from it. With constantly changing the temperature around you, you end up catching
a very nasty chill (throat, coughing and spluttering etc) or worse...The good
news is down here it only lasts for 24 hours —the bad news is that it comes
back shortly after 24 hours...You certainly can't sit on Henman Hill with a
glass of pinot grisch in one hand and a cucumber sandwich in the other - and of
course a nice fresh punnet of strawberries to compliment the look of your nice
frilly summer dress for your annual appearance in SW19... (sorry, I haven't a
clue what the girls are eating, drinking or wearing this year in Wimbledon -
just the boys). Anyhow, enough of that...I said in my last blog about having
completed 2 short stories (potentially for the American magazine/online markets
- and then at some point in the future, the UK markets)... I haven't really
done anything about this yet - but I have finished my 3rd (short) story, which
to be honest I am very excited about as this isn't just another bit of writing
for me - it is a whole lot more than that. The ORIGINS of Jimmy Sands and THE
STAR CIRCUIT, (the short story title) is planned to promote (well in advance)
potentially my 3rd (and biggest off-shoot value from both FLASHING LIGHTS and
the sequel STRAY) book in the series.I started the 'teaser' awareness marketing
campaign for it (short interesting/eye-catching extracts from the completed
manuscript) on Twitter and Facebook, which appears, in the very early stages,
to be hitting the right spot for potential readers of all 3 books.JIMMY SANDS
is part of my true-life autobiography - having firstly got a 'quiet mention' in
FLASHING LIGHTS with more to come in STRAY by which time he will be ready to
take the lead role in JIMMY SANDS AND THE STAR CIRCUIT.For the avoidance of
doubt, although the full book format will have to be classified (for legal
purposes) as fact-based FICTION, the short story is fully autobiographical in
all its details. (Jimmy Sands was my true-life alter ego)Until the next time, I
head back into the town centre to check on my pals, The Terrapins family (now 6
of them) of Tavira (in the moat surrounding the bandstand) to check on how they
are coping with the heat — they'll be fine as they are European Sub-aquatic
Terrapins (about the size of Tortoises in the UK) and are equally
as happy in or out of the water. Then a quick walk around the Salt
Pans to check on our FLAMINGOS (about 200 of them) - the numbers shot up during
and after COVID-19... I haven't got a clue why. Cheers everyone and thanks for
